NXT Spider-bot is designed to imitate spider motion.
Two motors are used for movement.

The construction is divided into number of sub assemblies. Each sub assembly contains Step-by-step detailed 3D renderings, which will guide you to build this robot.

 

Most of the parts used are from the new NXT and original RCX Mindstorms sets.  However you may need some extra parts in order to build this robot.  Extra components can be purchased through the Lego store ,Lego education store or number of other Lego online vendors. 

 

This robot can be programmed to move forward, back and turn. Works best on hard, not slippery surface.

 

Spider-bot locomotion:

Spider-bot is designed based on insect locomotion.  Insects having 6 legs move on alternating sets of tripods.   Three legs are always in direct contact with the ground.

 

Robot preperation:

Prior to running the robot, you must adjust the positioning of the legs. 

Rotate motor gear until the left side middle leg is at the lowest point and two other legs on same side are at their highest point.  Now do the opposite for the right side rotate motor until the middle leg is lifted and two other are lowered.
